Terrence J. Edwards is a registered patent attorney, whose practice focuses on intellectual property matters, including: patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing and unfair competition. He has been practicing intellectual property law since graduating from law school in 2001.
Mr. Edwards joined TechLaw Ventures in 2013 and became a managing partner of the firm in 2015. Mr. Edwards continues today as a managing partner and head of the patent group at TechLaw Ventures, where his practice focuses on various aspects of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and unfair competition.
Mr. Edwards came to TechLaw Ventures from a Salt Lake City boutique intellectual property law firm specializing exclusively on patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and unfair competition, where he was an income partner since 2007.
Mr. Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University, and a J.D. from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College where he served as a research editor for the Lewis & Clark Law Review.
Mr. Edwards is admitted to the Utah State Bar. He is also a registered patent attorney admitted to practice with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Edwards practices before the Utah Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Utah, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the Utah Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association .
Mr. Edwards is recognized by Utah Business Magazine and its poll of attorneys as one of Utah’s “Legal Elite,” which recognizes the state’s top lawyers as selected by their peers. He has also been recognized as a Rising Star from Super Lawyers, a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Mr. Edwards represents some of the largest companies in the world, including Fortune 100 companies, as well as startup and midsize companies in procuring and enforcing intellectual property rights. Mr. Edwards uses his expertise to build valuable patent portfolios for small startups and guides them all the way through successful acquisition. Mr. Edwards also has extensive domestic and international experience. His international experience includes technology and intellectual property transactions involving projects and companies all over the world in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America.
Mr. Edwards has many years of experience in intellectual property matters relating to and in the areas of: patent preparation, filing and prosecution, patent file history analysis, patent claim construction, patent and trademark infringement avoidance, patent and trademark opinion documents, trademark analysis, trademark filing and registration, due diligence, counseling, unfair competition, infringement risk assessments, negotiation, client representation, licensing, agreements and contracts.
